The EZ1084CM-3.3 from Semtech is a 5A low-dropout voltage regulator providing a fixed 3.3V output with +/-1% accuracy. With a maximum dropout of 1.3V at full 5A load, it can regulate 3.3V from a 5V supply while delivering high output current. The on-chip thermal shutdown and current limiting protect the device under overload conditions. Pin-compatible with the industry-standard 1084 LDO family, it can replace LM1084-3.3 and LT1084-3.3 in most applications.

The EZ1084CM-3.3 uses an NPN pass transistor in an emitter-follower configuration with a PNP driver stage to achieve low dropout. An error amplifier compares a divided-down output voltage with an internal bandgap reference trimmed to +/-0.5% accuracy. When the input-output differential falls below dropout, the pass transistor saturates and the output tracks the input minus the dropout. Thermal shutdown disables the output when junction temperature exceeds approximately 150°C.
