The AT24C04D-SSHM-T from Microchip is a 4Kbit (512 x 8) I2C serial EEPROM in TSSOP-8. The D series provides 1 million cycle endurance with 100-year data retention, significantly exceeding standard EEPROM specifications. The 400kHz I2C fast-mode supports rapid data transfer. The 1.7V minimum supply voltage enables operation from single-cell batteries. The SHM suffix denotes TSSOP-8 package with automotive temperature range (-40 to +125C). Hardware write protect prevents accidental data modification.

The AT24C04D-SSHM-T operates as an I2C serial EEPROM. (1) Communication uses standard I2C protocol with SDA and SCL lines. Each transaction begins with a START condition, followed by a device address byte (1010 + A1A0 + R/W), and then the 9-bit memory address. Up to 4 devices can share the same I2C bus using A0 and A1 address pins. (2) Read operations support current-address read (sequential) and random read (with address set). The address counter auto-increments after each byte, wrapping at the memory boundary. (3) Write operations support byte-write and 16-byte page-write modes. During page-write, up to 16 bytes are written in a single operation with the internal address counter incrementing within the page boundary. The write cycle time is 5ms maximum. The WP pin, when tied to VCC, protects the upper quadrant from writes. The 1M cycle endurance is achieved through advanced floating-gate technology.
