The TPS563201DDCR from Texas Instruments is a 3A synchronous step-down converter in SOT-23-6 with fixed output voltage options. It accepts 4.5-17V input and provides 1.05V to 5V fixed outputs using D-CAP2 control for fast transient response without external compensation. The integrated 70/40mOhm MOSFETs achieve up to 95% efficiency. ECO mode (pulse skip) maintains high efficiency at light loads with 35uA quiescent current. Internal soft-start and compensation minimize external component count to just 5 parts.

The TPS563201DDCR operates as a synchronous buck converter using D-CAP2 control. (1) D-CAP2 (Direct Control with Adaptive On-time 2nd Gen) uses an adaptive constant on-time modulator with an internal ripple injection circuit. This eliminates the need for output capacitor ESR as a stability requirement and supports all-ceramic output capacitors. The adaptive on-time maintains relatively constant switching frequency. (2) At heavy loads, the converter operates in continuous conduction mode (CCM) at approximately 580kHz. As the load decreases below the critical threshold, the device enters ECO (Economy) mode, skipping pulses to maintain regulation with minimum switching losses. The 35uA quiescent current in ECO mode preserves battery life. (3) The internal soft-start ramps the output voltage gradually over approximately 1ms, limiting inrush current. The internal compensation network is optimized for a wide range of output capacitances (22uF to 200uF ceramic). The enable pin provides logic-controlled on/off with 3uA shutdown current.
