The TPS562200DDCR from Texas Instruments is a 2A synchronous step-down converter in SOT-23-6. It accepts 4.5-17V input and provides an adjustable output from 0.76V to 7V. The DCS-Control topology combines voltage mode control with adaptive constant on-time for fast transient response. The integrated 110mOhm/65mOhm MOSFETs achieve up to 95% efficiency. Auto PFM/PWM mode switches to PFM at light loads for high efficiency across the load range. Only 4 external components are required for a complete solution.

The TPS562200DDCR operates as a synchronous buck converter using DCS-Control topology. (1) The DCS-Control (Direct Control with Seamless transition) combines a voltage-mode controller with a comparator-based direct control path. The voltage-mode loop provides accurate DC regulation and noise immunity, while the direct control path provides fast transient response by adjusting the on-time based on output voltage deviation. (2) The internal compensation network is optimized for a wide range of output capacitors (22uF to 200uF ceramic). The 650kHz switching frequency provides a good balance between efficiency and solution size. The internal soft-start (1ms) limits inrush current during startup. (3) At light loads, the device automatically enters PFM (Pulse Frequency Modulation) mode, reducing switching frequency to maintain high efficiency. As the load increases, it seamlessly transitions to PWM (Pulse Width Modulation) mode at 650kHz. The 130uA quiescent current in PFM mode minimizes battery drain in always-on applications.
