The AD7176-2BRUZ is a fast-settling, high-precision 24-bit sigma-delta ADC from Analog Devices, optimized for multiplexed low-bandwidth signal acquisition. With a 20µs settling time in sinc5+sinc1 filter mode, it achieves 50kSPS per channel in scanned configurations — far faster than conventional sigma-delta ADCs. The integrated crosspoint multiplexer supports 2 fully differential or 4 pseudo-differential inputs. A 2.5V internal bandgap reference with only 2ppm/°C drift eliminates external reference circuitry. Three programmable digital filters allow trade-offs between speed, resolution, and line-frequency rejection. Per-channel calibration registers correct system offset and gain errors. The 24-lead TSSOP package keeps board area minimal for PLC/DCS modules.

The AD7176-2 uses a third-order sigma-delta modulator followed by a configurable digital decimation filter. The modulator oversamples the input at MCLK/16, producing a high-speed bit stream. The digital filter decimates this bit stream into 24-bit output words at rates from 5 SPS to 250 kSPS. The sinc5+sinc1 filter provides fast 20µs settling for multiplexed scanning; the sinc3 filter maximizes resolution at low output rates (22 noise-free bits at 5 SPS); the enhanced filter provides simultaneous 50Hz/60Hz rejection. The crosspoint multiplexer connects any of the 5 analog input pins to the modulator in any differential combination. Calibration is performed by writing offset and gain correction registers per channel. The SPI interface supports CRC error detection for robust communication in noisy industrial environments.

  • Multiplexed Temperature Measurement: Connect up to 4 thermocouple or RTD channels through the crosspoint multiplexer. The 20µs settling enables scanning all channels at 50kSPS with full settling. Use the enhanced 50/60Hz filter for industrial environments with power-line noise. Per-channel offset registers compensate for thermocouple cold-junction errors individually.
  • PLC/DCS Analog Input Module: Build a 4-channel, 24-bit analog input module for industrial control. The AD7176-2’s per-channel configuration allows different input ranges and filter settings on each channel. GPIO pins control an external analog multiplexer to expand channel count beyond 4. CRC checking ensures data integrity in electrically noisy environments.
  • Weight Scale and Force Measurement: Connect a load cell’s differential output directly to the AD7176-2. At 5 SPS with sinc3 filter, achieve 22 noise-free bits (0.6ppm resolution) for sub-microvolt signal detection. The 2.5V reference with 2ppm/°C drift maintains accuracy over temperature without an external reference.
