The R suffix indicates an integrated 2.5V reference with 2ppm/C typical temperature drift, eliminating the need for an external precision reference. The BRUZ suffix decodes as: B=12-bit resolution, R=internal reference, U=TSSOP package, Z=RoHS compliant. Operating from a single 2.7V to 5.5V supply with a separate VLOGIC pin for 1.8V logic compatibility, the AD5684R provides four independent DAC channels with user-selectable output gain of 1 (0 to VREF) or 2 (0 to 2xVREF) via the GAIN pin. The 50MHz SPI interface supports readback and daisy-chain operation, while the RSTSEL pin configures power-on reset to either zero scale or midscale.
The AD5684R operates through four subsystems: (1) Resistor-String DAC Architecture: Each DAC channel uses a resistor-string (R-2R ladder) architecture to convert 12-bit digital codes to analog voltages. The resistor string ensures monotonicity by design, guaranteeing that increasing digital input codes produce increasing (or equal) output voltages. (2) Internal Voltage Reference: A 2.5V bandgap reference with 2ppm/C typical temperature drift provides the reference voltage for all four DAC channels. The reference output is available on the VREFOUT pin for external use or monitoring. The GAIN pin selects whether the DAC output spans 0 to VREF (GAIN=0) or 0 to 2xVREF (GAIN=1), allowing a 5V full-scale output from the 2.5V reference when operating at 5V supply. (3) Output Amplifier: Each channel includes a buffered output amplifier that can source or sink up to 20mA while maintaining voltage within 0.5V of the supply rails. The amplifier provides a low output impedance for driving resistive loads directly. (4) SPI Interface: A 4-wire SPI interface (SCLK, SDI, SDO, SYNC) operates at up to 50MHz clock rate. The interface supports 24-bit data frames containing both address/command and data bits. The SDO output enables daisy-chaining multiple devices or readback of DAC register contents.
