The DRV8601DRBR from Texas Instruments is a single-supply haptic driver optimized for driving ERM (Eccentric Rotating Mass) DC motors and LRA (Linear Resonant Actuators) using a single-ended PWM input. With 400mA output capability and 100us fast turn-on time, it provides responsive haptic feedback for mobile phones and portable electronics. The differential output drive enables quick motor reversal for rapid stopping. The device features 1.7mA quiescent current and 10nA shutdown current for minimal battery drain.

The DRV8601 uses a differential output driver stage with power MOSFETs in an H-bridge-like configuration. The PWM input signal controls the output drive level and direction. For ERM operation, the differential output applies voltage across the motor terminals in one direction for forward rotation and reverses polarity for quick braking. For LRA operation, the device drives the actuator at its resonant frequency. The enable pin (1.8V compatible) controls device power states. Internal thermal shutdown and output short-circuit protection safeguard the device during fault conditions.
