The VNH5050ATR-E from STMicroelectronics is a fully integrated H-bridge motor driver engineered for demanding automotive applications. Utilizing ST’s proprietary VIPower M0 technology, the device integrates dual monolithic high-side drivers and two low-side switches on electrically isolated leadframes within a PowerSSO-36 TP package. The three independent dies provide true power MOSFET performance combined with intelligent signal and protection circuitry. With 30 A output current capability and RDS(on) of 50 mΩ per leg, the device efficiently drives DC motors in applications such as door locks, seat adjusters, wiper systems, and HVAC blowers. The exposed die pad design ensures superior thermal performance in the harsh automotive environment.

The VNH5050ATR-E operates as a full H-bridge motor driver where two high-side and two low-side MOSFET switches control the direction and speed of a DC motor. Input pins INA and INB select the motor direction (clockwise, counter-clockwise, or brake) by activating the appropriate pair of diagonal switches. The PWM pin enables speed control up to 20 kHz by modulating the low-side switches. Each high-side driver is built using VIPower M0 technology, integrating a charge pump for N-channel MOSFET gate drive on the same die as the power transistor. The DIAGA/ENA and DIAGB/ENB pins serve a dual function: when pulled high externally, they enable the respective bridge leg; when a fault occurs, they provide diagnostic feedback. The CS (current sense) pin delivers a current proportional to the motor current when CS_DIS is low, enabling torque monitoring and load detection.
