The ULR1-R0025FT2 from TT Electronics (Welwyn) is a 2.5 mOhm metal alloy current sense resistor from the ULR series, offering +/-1% tolerance and a low temperature coefficient of +/-50 ppm/C in a 2512 (6.35 x 3.18 mm) surface-mount package. The bulk metal alloy resistive element provides superior performance compared to thick film or metal strip alternatives, with extremely low inductance (<5 nH typical) making it suitable for high-frequency switching applications such as DC-DC converters and motor drives. The 4-terminal (Kelvin) pad layout enables accurate voltage measurement across the sense element by separating the current path from the voltage sensing path, eliminating the error caused by solder joint and trace resistance. AEC-Q200 qualified, the ULR1-R0025FT2 is designed for automotive current sensing applications including battery management systems, motor drives, and power distribution. With a 1W power rating and operating temperature range of -55C to +170C, the device can handle continuous currents up to 20A while maintaining measurement accuracy.

The ULR1-R0025FT2 operates as a precision shunt resistor where current flowing through the 2.5 mOhm resistive element produces a proportional voltage drop according to Ohm’s law (V = I x R). For a 10A load current, the voltage drop across the sense resistor is 25 mV, which can be amplified by a current sense amplifier or measured directly by an ADC. The bulk metal alloy element is a solid piece of resistive metal (typically manganese-copper or nickel-chromium alloy) that provides inherent stability and very low inductance compared to spiral or etched trace constructions. The 4-terminal (Kelvin) connection separates the high-current path (force terminals) from the voltage measurement path (sense terminals), eliminating the voltage drop across the solder joints and PCB traces that would otherwise introduce measurement error. The +/-50 ppm/C TCR ensures that the resistance value changes by less than 0.01% per degree Celsius, maintaining measurement accuracy over the full automotive temperature range.
