The TPS70933DBVR from Texas Instruments is a 150mA low-dropout linear regulator with a fixed 3.3V output in a SOT-23-5 package. The device features an ultra-low 1uA typical quiescent current, making it ideal for always-on battery-powered applications where standby current must be minimized. The wide 2.7V to 50V input range supports direct connection to industrial 24V or 48V supply rails without pre-regulation. Dropout voltage is 710mV at 150mA load. The device provides 68dB PSRR at 100Hz for clean output regulation. An enable pin allows the device to be shut down, reducing current consumption to below 300nA. Reverse current blocking prevents current flow from the output back to the input when the input voltage drops below the output, protecting the input supply. The SOT-23-5 package provides a tiny footprint for space-constrained designs.

The TPS70933DBVR uses a PMOS pass transistor with ultra-low quiescent current bias. (1) Pass Element: A P-channel MOSFET pass transistor provides low dropout operation and draws zero gate current in steady state, enabling the 1uA quiescent current. The PMOS also provides reverse current blocking when VIN drops below VOUT. (2) Error Amplifier: A low-power error amplifier compares a fraction of the output voltage to an internal bandgap reference. The amplifier drives the PMOS gate to maintain regulation. The bias circuitry is optimized for microampere-level current consumption. (3) Enable: The EN pin controls the device. When EN is low, all internal circuitry is disabled and the output is discharged through an internal pull-down resistor. Quiescent current drops below 300nA in shutdown. (4) Protection: The reverse current blocking feature uses the PMOS body diode orientation to prevent current flow from output to input. Thermal shutdown and current limiting protect against fault conditions.
