The TPS63021DSJR from Texas Instruments is a high-efficiency single-inductor buck-boost converter providing a fixed 3.3V output from a 1.8V to 5.5V input range. With integrated 4A switches and synchronous rectification, it delivers up to 2A output current. The 2.4MHz switching frequency allows the use of small external inductors and capacitors. The device automatically transitions between buck, boost, and buck-boost modes for seamless output regulation across the input voltage range. Power save mode maintains high efficiency at light loads with only 25uA quiescent current.

The TPS63021DSJR uses a single-inductor buck-boost architecture with four integrated MOSFET switches controlled by an average current-mode control loop. When the input voltage is above the output, the converter operates in buck mode. When below, it operates in boost mode. At input voltages near the output, it operates in buck-boost mode with all four switches active. The control loop automatically transitions between modes without output disturbance. At light loads, the device enters power save mode with reduced switching frequency to maintain efficiency. The power good output indicates when the output voltage is within regulation. During shutdown, the load is disconnected from the input to prevent battery drain.
