The TPS62130RGTR is a Texas Instruments synchronous step-down DC-DC converter in a compact 3x3mm VQFN-16 package. The 3V to 17V input range supports 12V intermediate rails and single or multi-cell Li-ion batteries. The DCS-Control (Direct Control with Seamless transition) topology provides fast transient response with a single reactive output component, while maintaining nearly constant switching frequency. The 2.5MHz switching frequency enables the use of small inductors (2.2uH typical) and capacitors, minimizing solution size. The device delivers up to 3A continuous output current with output voltage adjustable from 0.9V to 6V. The Power Save Mode automatically activates at light loads with 17uA quiescent current, maintaining high efficiency across the entire load range with seamless transition between PWM and PFM modes. The 100% duty cycle mode allows the output to approach the input voltage in dropout conditions. The programmable soft-start controls the output voltage ramp, enabling power sequencing via the Enable and Power Good pins.

The TPS62130 uses TI DCS-Control topology, which combines voltage-mode control with a direct feed-forward path from the output voltage. The error amplifier compares the feedback voltage (from the VOS pin or external divider) with an internal 0.8V reference. The DCS-Control generates the on-time based on the input voltage and output voltage ratio, maintaining nearly constant frequency. The off-time is adaptively controlled to achieve seamless transition between continuous conduction (PWM) and discontinuous conduction (PFM) modes. In Power Save Mode at light loads, the device skips switching pulses to reduce switching losses. The 100% duty cycle mode turns the high-side MOSFET on continuously when the input voltage approaches the output voltage, minimizing dropout. The current limit circuit protects against overloads by monitoring the high-side MOSFET current and reducing the current limit to 1.6A during short circuits.
