The TPS562210SDBVR from Texas Instruments is a simple, easy-to-use 2A synchronous step-down converter in a compact 8-pin SOT-23-THN package. It features D-CAP2 control mode, which provides fast transient response and eliminates the need for external compensation components, simplifying design. The device operates from a 4.5V to 17V input range and produces an adjustable output from 0.76V to 7V. The fixed 650kHz switching frequency balances efficiency and component size. Advanced Eco-mode maintains high efficiency at light loads by pulse-skipping when the inductor current reaches zero. The integrated 133mOhm high-side and 80mOhm low-side MOSFETs provide low conduction losses for high efficiency. The power-good output indicates output regulation status, enabling power sequencing in multi-rail systems.

The TPS562210 employs TI’s D-CAP2 control mode, a proprietary constant on-time architecture with internal ripple injection. The on-time is calculated from the input voltage to maintain approximately constant switching frequency. The error comparator compares the FB pin voltage with a 0.76V internal reference plus a synthetic ripple signal. When the FB voltage falls below the reference plus ripple, a new on-time pulse is initiated. This naturally provides fast transient response because the on-time is triggered immediately when the output drops. The internal ripple injection eliminates the need for output capacitor ESR for stability, allowing the use of low-ESR ceramic capacitors. In Advanced Eco-mode, the low-side MOSFET is turned off when the inductor current reaches zero at light loads, preventing negative inductor current and improving efficiency. Overcurrent protection uses cycle-by-cycle current limiting with hiccup-mode restart after a fault timeout period.
