The TPS54202HDDCR is a Texas Instruments 2A synchronous step-down converter in an ultra-compact SOT-23-6 package. The 4.5V to 28V input range covers 12V and 24V distributed bus architectures in industrial and consumer applications. The integrated 148mohm high-side and 78mohm low-side MOSFETs deliver 2A continuous output with high efficiency. The 500kHz fixed switching frequency with spread spectrum modulation reduces peak EMI emissions, simplifying compliance with CISPR 32 and FCC Part 15. Advanced Eco-mode pulse skipping maximizes light-load efficiency for always-on standby power supplies. The internal compensation and 5ms soft-start minimize external component count and design complexity. Peak current-mode control provides fast transient response. Both MOSFETs are protected by hiccup-mode overcurrent, which limits average dissipation during sustained overloads. Overvoltage protection and thermal shutdown provide additional fault handling. The 45uA operating IQ and 2uA shutdown IQ minimize standby power. Packaged in SOT-23-6 rated for -40C to +125C.

The TPS54202H uses peak current-mode PWM control with integrated MOSFETs. The high-side NMOS (148mohm) and low-side NMOS (78mohm) form a synchronous buck half-bridge. The BOOT pin capacitor provides gate drive voltage for the high-side NMOS. The FB pin connects to an external resistor divider that sets the output voltage (0.8V reference). The error amplifier adjusts the peak current command based on the FB error. The spread spectrum modulator applies frequency dithering of approximately +/-6% to the 500kHz clock, spreading the switching harmonic energy across a wider bandwidth and reducing peak emissions at any single frequency. Eco-mode skips switching pulses at light loads, reducing effective switching frequency to minimize gate drive and switching losses. The internal soft-start gradually increases the current limit during startup, preventing inrush current overshoot. Hiccup-mode OCP disables switching for a recovery period after 128 consecutive overcurrent events, limiting average power dissipation during faults.
