The TPS22959DNYT from Texas Instruments is a 5.5V, 15A load switch with ultra-low 4.4 mOhm on-resistance and integrated Quick Output Discharge (QOD) in a compact WSON-8 (3x3mm) package. The device operates with an input voltage range of 0.8V to 5.5V and a separate bias supply of 2.5V to 5.5V, which ensures low on-resistance across the entire input voltage range. The controlled slew rate limits inrush current during turn-on, protecting downstream components. When the switch is disabled, the QOD feature rapidly discharges the output capacitance through an internal resistor, ensuring a clean power-down. The device consumes only 20 uA quiescent current and 1 uA shutdown current at VBIAS=5V.

The TPS22959DNYT integrates a low-resistance N-channel MOSFET with control logic and protection circuits. (1) Main Switch: An N-channel power MOSFET with 4.4 mOhm on-resistance connects VIN to VOUT when enabled. A charge pump generates the gate drive voltage from the VBIAS supply to fully enhance the MOSFET even when VIN is as low as 0.8V. (2) Controlled Turn-On: The slew rate control circuit gradually increases the gate voltage, resulting in a controlled rise time of 2663 us at VIN=5V. This limits the inrush current into downstream capacitors, preventing voltage droop on the input rail. (3) Quick Output Discharge: When the switch is disabled, an internal discharge resistor (QOD) connects from VOUT to GND, rapidly discharging the output capacitance to ensure a clean power-down sequence. (4) Bias Supply: The separate VBIAS pin powers the internal control circuitry and charge pump. This allows the switch to maintain low RDS(on) even with very low VIN voltages.
