The TPS2051CDBVR from Texas Instruments is a single-channel current-limited power-distribution switch in a SOT-23-6 package. The N-channel MOSFET switch has 135mOhm maximum on-resistance at 5V input and supports 0.5A continuous current with 0.9A typical current limit. The active-high enable allows direct MCU control. Protection features include short-circuit current limiting, over-temperature shutdown, and undervoltage lockout. An open-drain fault output (OC) reports overcurrent and thermal faults. The device operates from 2.7V to 5.5V, making it suitable for USB port power switching and general-purpose load management in space-constrained designs.

The TPS2051CDBVR uses an N-channel MOSFET power switch with integrated protection. (1) Power Switch: An N-channel MOSFET with 135mOhm RDS(on) connects the input (IN) to the output (OUT) when enabled. A charge pump generates the gate drive voltage above VIN for low RDS(on). (2) Current Limiting: When the output current exceeds the threshold (0.9A typical), the current limit circuit reduces the gate drive to maintain constant current. If the overcurrent condition persists, the thermal protection activates. (3) Thermal Shutdown: When the junction temperature exceeds approximately 140C, the switch turns off. It automatically recovers when the temperature drops below the threshold. (4) UVLO: The undervoltage lockout ensures the switch is off when VIN is below 2.0V, preventing unstable operation during power-up. (5) Fault Output: The open-drain OC output pulls low when an overcurrent or thermal fault is detected.
