The Texas Instruments TPS2051BDGN is a single-channel current-limited power-distribution switch designed for applications requiring controlled power routing with robust fault protection. The device integrates an N-channel MOSFET with 70mohm typical on-resistance and supports load voltages from 2.7V to 5.5V with up to 500mA continuous current. Built-in current limiting, over-temperature shutdown, and undervoltage lockout protect both the switch and the downstream circuitry from fault conditions. The TPS2051BDGN operates as a controlled high-side power switch with three main protection subsystems: 1) N-Channel MOSFET Switch: The integrated N-channel MOSFET connects the input supply to the load when enabled. The gate drive circuit ensures the MOSFET is fully enhanced for low 70mohm on-resistance. 2) Current Limiting: When the output current exceeds the fixed threshold (approximately 1A typical), the current-limiting circuit reduces the gate drive to limit the output current, protecting the switch and downstream components. 3) Thermal Protection: A thermal sensor monitors the junction temperature and shuts down the MOSFET if it exceeds approximately 140°C. The device automatically restarts when the temperature drops below the threshold. UVLO ensures the switch remains off until the input voltage is above the minimum operating level.
