The TPD4E001DRSR is a 4-channel transient voltage suppressor (TVS) based ESD protection diode array from Texas Instruments, designed to protect high-speed data interfaces from electrostatic discharge. It meets IEC 61000-4-2 Level 4 with +/-8kV contact and +/-15kV air-gap discharge ratings. Each channel features only 1.5pF I/O capacitance, ensuring signal integrity at USB 2.0 and Ethernet data rates. The ultra-low 1nA leakage current makes it suitable for high-impedance analog measurement applications. The WSON package with exposed pad provides excellent thermal performance in a compact 3x3mm footprint.

The TPD4E001 uses back-to-back TVS diode pairs on each I/O channel, connected between the signal line and ground. Under normal operation, the diodes are reverse-biased and present only 1.5pF capacitance and 1nA leakage to the signal. When an ESD event occurs, the diode rapidly avalanches, clamping the voltage to a safe level and diverting the transient current to ground. The diode recovers automatically after the transient subsides. A VCC pin provides a reference for the protection structure and requires a 0.1uF bypass capacitor to ground.
