The STM32F446ZET6 from STMicroelectronics is a high-performance foundation line 32-bit microcontroller based on the ARM Cortex-M4 core with floating-point unit (FPU) operating at up to 180MHz. The device integrates 512KB of Flash memory and 128KB of SRAM plus 4KB of backup SRAM retained in Standby mode. The ART Accelerator enables zero-wait-state execution from Flash at the full 180MHz, delivering 225 DMIPS performance. The STM32F446 uniquely features two Serial Audio Interfaces (SAI) supporting I2S, TDM, and PCM audio protocols, a SPDIF receiver for digital audio input, and dual QuadSPI interfaces for external flash memory expansion. The peripheral set also includes three 12-bit ADCs at 2.4 MSPS, two 12-bit DACs, two CAN controllers, USB 2.0 OTG HS/FS, SDIO, and 14 timers. The FPU and DSP instructions accelerate signal processing algorithms including PID control, digital filtering, and audio processing. The multi-AHB bus matrix with dual DMA controllers ensures concurrent high-speed data transfers.

The STM32F446ZET6 operates on the ARM Cortex-M4F core with several performance enhancements. (1) FPU: The single-precision floating-point unit executes IEEE 754 float operations in hardware, accelerating DSP algorithms by 5-10x compared to software emulation. This is critical for motor control Park/Clarke transforms, audio filters, and sensor fusion. (2) DSP Instructions: Saturating arithmetic, MAC (multiply-accumulate), and SIMD instructions enable efficient FIR/IIR filter implementations and FFT computation. (3) ART Accelerator: An instruction prefetch queue and 128-bit branch cache eliminate Flash wait states, enabling full 180MHz execution speed from 128-bit-wide Flash. (4) SAI: The Serial Audio Interface provides flexible I2S/TDM/PCM audio with independent TX and RX sub-blocks, supporting full-duplex audio streaming with independent clock domains. (5) QuadSPI: Dual QuadSPI interfaces can map external flash into the CPU address space (memory-mapped mode) for execute-in-place, or use indirect mode for data transfers, enabling virtually unlimited firmware and data storage.
