The STM32F429VGT6 from STMicroelectronics is a high-performance Arm Cortex-M4 32-bit microcontroller operating at up to 180 MHz with 225 DMIPS throughput. It features 1 MB of dual-bank Flash memory and 256 KB of SRAM including 64 KB of Core Coupled Memory (CCM) for time-critical data. The device distinguishes itself with an integrated LCD-TFT display controller supporting resolutions up to XGA with dual graphics layers, combined with the Chrom-ART Accelerator (DMA2D) that offloads 2D graphic operations such as image blending, format conversion, and memory-to-memory copy from the CPU. The Flexible Memory Controller (FMC) supports external SDRAM, SRAM, NOR, NAND, and Compact Flash memories, enabling frame buffer storage in external SDRAM for GUI applications. Communication interfaces include USB 2.0 OTG high-speed and full-speed controllers, a 10/100 Ethernet MAC with IEEE 1588v2, six SPIs, three I2Cs, four USARTs plus four UARTs, two CAN 2.0B controllers, and an SDIO interface. This is the tube-packaged version for prototyping and low-volume production.

The STM32F429VGT6 operates through six key subsystems: (1) The Cortex-M4 core with FPU executes DSP and floating-point instructions at 180 MHz. The ART Accelerator uses instruction and literal caches to achieve zero-wait-state execution from Flash, critical for sustained 225 DMIPS performance. (2) The LCD-TFT controller independently reads pixel data from the frame buffer in external SDRAM via FMC, generating RGB signals with programmable timings up to 83 MHz pixel clock with dual-layer alpha blending. (3) The DMA2D (Chrom-ART Accelerator) performs 2D memory-to-memory transfers with pixel format conversion, blending, and filling without CPU intervention. (4) The FMC provides a 32-bit data bus interface to external memories, supporting SDRAM up to 120 MHz for frame buffer and NOR Flash for code shadowing. (5) Three 12-bit ADCs can operate independently or in triple interleaved mode for 7.2 MSPS aggregate throughput. (6) The power management system operates from 1.7 V to 3.6 V with sleep, stop, and standby modes for power optimization.
