The STM32F103ZGT6 from STMicroelectronics is an XL-density performance line 32-bit microcontroller based on the ARM Cortex-M3 core at 72MHz. Compared to the STM32F103ZET6, the ZGT6 doubles the Flash memory to 1MB and increases SRAM to 96KB, enabling more complex firmware, larger communication protocol stacks, and more extensive data buffering. The device retains all peripherals of the ZET6 variant: three 12-bit ADCs (21 channels), two 12-bit DACs, 14 timers including two motor-control PWM timers, USB 2.0 full-speed, CAN 2.0B, five USARTs, three SPIs, two I2Cs, SDIO, and FSMC for external memory expansion. The 112 I/O pins in LQFP-144 package are 5V-tolerant and pin-compatible with the ZET6, allowing a simple memory upgrade without PCB changes. The device supports Sleep, Stop, and Standby low-power modes with VBAT backup for RTC.

The STM32F103ZGT6 operates identically to the STM32F103ZET6 with larger memory resources. (1) XL-Density Memory: The 1MB Flash is organized as two banks, enabling read-while-write operation where one bank can be programmed or erased while the CPU executes from the other. The 96KB SRAM is split between main SRAM (64KB) and USB SRAM (32KB shareable). (2) Same Core Peripherals: The Cortex-M3 core, NVIC, DMA, and all digital/analog peripherals function identically to the ZET6 variant. (3) FSMC: The Flexible Static Memory Controller can address up to 4 chip selects of external memory including SRAM, PSRAM, NOR, and NAND flash, useful when even 1MB internal Flash is insufficient. (4) Upgrade Path: The pin-compatible LQFP-144 package allows upgrading from ZET6 to ZGT6 on the same PCB design, requiring only firmware changes to utilize the additional memory.
