The Vishay SS34-E3/57T is a 3A 40V Schottky rectifier in SMA package with 0.5V typical forward voltage at 3A. This is one of the most widely used Schottky diodes in the electronics industry, found in virtually every DC-DC converter and switch-mode power supply. The low forward voltage drop significantly reduces power dissipation compared to silicon PN junction rectifiers, improving overall system efficiency.

The SS34-E3/57T uses a metal-silicon junction (Schottky barrier) instead of a P-N junction, resulting in a much lower forward voltage drop (0.5V vs. 0.9-1.1V for silicon) and essentially zero reverse recovery time. The Schottky barrier is formed between the metal anode and N-type silicon, creating a majority carrier device. This eliminates the minority carrier storage that causes reverse recovery current in P-N junction diodes, enabling very high switching speeds.
