The SP3232EEA-L/TR from Sipex/MaxLinear (formerly Exar) is a 3.3V RS-232 transceiver with Auto On-Line feature, meeting EIA/TIA-232-E and V.28 specifications. It contains two drivers and two receivers, operates from a single 3.0V to 5.5V supply, and uses charge pump to generate +/-5.5V RS-232 voltage levels.

The SP3232EEA-L/TR from MaxLinear is a 3.3V RS-232 transceiver with 2 drivers/2 receivers, Auto On-Line power management, +/-15kV ESD protection, and 120kbps data rate in an SSOP-16 package.

The SP3232 uses an internal charge pump with four external 0.1uF capacitors to generate +/-5.5V voltage levels from a single 3.0-5.5V supply, meeting RS-232 voltage swing requirements. The Auto On-Line feature monitors the RS-232 receiver inputs; when all receivers detect no valid signal (cable disconnected), the device automatically enters a low-power 1uA shutdown mode. When a valid RS-232 signal is detected, the device automatically powers back up.
