The SN74HC245PWR from Texas Instruments is an octal bus transceiver with 3-state outputs, designed for asynchronous two-way communication between data buses. The device is part of the 74HC (High-Speed CMOS) logic family, offering a wide operating voltage range from 2 V to 6 V. The control function implementation minimizes external timing requirements. Data transmission direction is controlled by the DIR input, while the active-low OE (output enable) input can disable the device to effectively isolate the buses. The 3-state outputs can drive bus lines directly or up to 15 LSTTL loads, making this device ideal for buffering and bus driving in microprocessor systems.

The SN74HC245PWR contains eight bidirectional transceiver channels organized as A-bus and B-bus pairs. The DIR pin determines the data flow direction: when DIR is high, data flows from A to B; when DIR is low, data flows from B to A. The active-low OE pin controls the output state: when OE is low, the selected direction outputs are active; when OE is high, both A and B outputs are placed in a high-impedance (3-state) state, effectively disconnecting the device from both buses. The internal CMOS structure uses complementary N-channel and P-channel transistors to achieve low static power consumption (80 µA max) while providing balanced output drive capability of ±6 mA at 5 V. Positive input clamp diodes protect the inputs from electrostatic discharge and voltage overshoot.
