SMDA15C.TBT

The Semtech SMDA15C.TBT is a bidirectional TVS diode array from the SMDAxxC series, designed to protect sensitive electronics from damage or latch-up due to ESD, lightning, and other voltage-induced transient events. Each device protects four data or I/O lines with working voltages of 15V. The device features 300W peak pulse power dissipation, 30V maximum clamping voltage, and 75pF junction capacitance per channel. It meets IEC 61000-4-2 Level 4 ESD requirements, providing +-15kV air discharge and +-8kV contact discharge protection. The compact SO-8 package allows protection of up to four independent lines in minimal board space.

The SMDA15C.TBT operates as a transient voltage suppression array with four key mechanisms: 1) Normal Operation: When line voltages are below 15V, the TVS diodes present high impedance with only 1uA leakage, not affecting signal integrity. 2) ESD Clamping: During an ESD strike exceeding the breakdown voltage (16.7V min), the silicon avalanche diodes rapidly conduct, clamping the voltage to 30V maximum and diverting energy away from protected ICs. 3) Bidirectional Protection: Each channel provides symmetrical clamping for both positive and negative transients, suitable for AC signal lines. 4) Multi-Line Protection: The four-channel configuration protects up to four data lines simultaneously, with isolation between channels preventing cross-talk.
