The PIC24FJ256GB106-I/PT from Microchip Technology is a 16-bit PIC24F microcontroller with 256KB Flash and 16KB SRAM featuring an integrated USB 2.0 Full-Speed On-The-Go controller. The USB OTG module supports Host, Device, and OTG modes with integrated transceiver, eliminating external USB PHY. A 4KB dual-port USB buffer ensures efficient data transfer. The device includes a 10-bit 500ksps ADC with 16 channels, 2 UARTs, 2 SPIs, 2 I2Cs, 5 16-bit timers, CTMU for capacitive touch, and Parallel Master Port (PMP). Operating at up to 16 MIPS at 32MHz, it targets USB-enabled embedded applications in industrial and consumer segments.

The PIC24FJ256GB106 uses Microchip’s 16-bit PIC24F core with modified Harvard architecture. (1) CPU: A 16-bit ALU with 24-bit instruction word executes most instructions in one cycle at 16MIPS. 16 working registers provide efficient data manipulation. (2) USB Module: The integrated USB 2.0 Full-Speed OTG controller manages all USB protocol layers including SIE, FIFO management, and transceiver control. In Device mode, it supports up to 32 endpoints. In Host mode, it drives USB bus and enumerates downstream devices. The 4KB dual-port SRAM buffer allows concurrent USB and CPU access. (3) Flash: 256KB program memory supports live updates via RTSP (Run-Time Self-Programming). (4) CTMU: The Charge Time Measurement Unit sources precise current pulses, enabling capacitive touch sensing with minimal external components.
