The resistor utilizes a nichrome thin film element selectively deposited on a 96% alumina substrate, with a precisely controlled laser trim process adjusting the resistance value to the specified 0.1% tolerance. The nichrome alloy provides excellent long-term stability and low current noise, making this resistor suitable for precision analog circuits where resistance accuracy and temperature stability are critical. The PCF series features epoxy passivation for superior humidity performance and 100% Sn matte plated wrap-around terminations for reliable solder joint formation. With a power rating of 62.5 mW and maximum working voltage of 50V, the PCF0603R-15KBT1 is ideal for precision voltage dividers, feedback networks, and measurement circuits in industrial, medical, and automotive applications.

The PCF0603R-15KBT1 operates as a passive two-terminal resistive element where the electrical resistance is determined by the geometry and resistivity of the deposited nichrome thin film. The nichrome (nickel-chromium alloy) thin film is selectively deposited on the alumina substrate through sputtering or evaporation, creating a resistive path between the two termination pads. An unadjusted film with slightly lower resistance than the target value is first heat-treated to stabilize the TCR and ensure long-term stability, then a precisely controlled laser trim process removes material from the resistive path to increase the resistance to the target value of 15 kOhm with +/-0.1% accuracy. The laser cut is typically a serpentine pattern that increases the effective current path length. The epoxy passivation layer protects the trimmed resistive element from environmental factors, particularly humidity, which can cause resistance drift in unpassivated thin films. The temperature coefficient of +/-25 ppm/C means the resistance changes by no more than 25 parts per million per degree Celsius, resulting in a maximum resistance change of 0.045% over the full -55C to +125C operating range.
