The MX25L12835FM2I-10G from Macronix is a 128 Mbit (16 MByte) serial NOR flash memory supporting standard SPI, dual-output SPI, and quad-output SPI interfaces. In quad I/O mode at 133 MHz, the device achieves 532 Mbps throughput, making it suitable for eXecute-In-Place (XIP) applications where code is executed directly from flash without copying to RAM. The device provides flexible erase granularity with 4 KB sectors, 32 KB half-blocks, and 64 KB blocks. Secured OTP (One-Time Programmable) area and a 64-bit unique ID support secure provisioning. The device supports deep power-down mode with 5 uA typical current for battery-sensitive applications.

The MX25L12835FM2I-10G is accessed through an SPI-compatible serial interface using Chip Select (CS#), Serial Clock (SCLK), and data pins (SI, SO, SIO2, SIO3). In standard SPI mode, only SI and SO are used for data transfer. In dual-output mode, both SI and SO output data on consecutive clock edges. In quad I/O mode, all four data pins transfer data simultaneously, achieving 4x throughput. Commands are issued by asserting CS# low and clocking in the command byte followed by address and data. The quad enable (QE) bit in the status register must be set before using quad SPI modes. The internal 256-byte page buffer allows page program operations. Erase operations clear 4 KB sectors, 32 KB half-blocks, or 64 KB blocks to all 1s. The device supports XIP with continuous read mode that reduces command overhead for sequential access patterns.
