The MP8049SDU-LF-Z from Monolithic Power Systems is a quad power half-bridge driver IC in a 5 x 5 mm QFN-40 package. Operating from 5-26 V with 5.5 A peak output current and 0.14 Ohm total on-resistance, it delivers up to 37W per channel into 8 Ohm loads in BTL configuration. The device integrates all four power half-bridges with bootstrap drivers, and features comprehensive protection including cycle-by-cycle overcurrent limit (5.5A), overtemperature shutdown (160 deg C), undervoltage lockout, and short-circuit detection. Configurable as dual full-bridge or quad half-bridge, it serves Class-D audio amplifiers and motor drive applications.

The MP8049 integrates four N-channel MOSFET half-bridges with gate drive and protection logic on a single die. Each half-bridge consists of a high-side NMOS switch and a low-side NMOS switch. The bootstrap circuit (external capacitor on BST pins) provides gate drive voltage above the supply rail for the high-side NMOS. A 10 ns dead time between high-side and low-side conduction prevents shoot-through current. The overcurrent protection monitors each MOSFET’s current and shuts down the corresponding bridge channel for approximately 30 us when the 5.5A threshold is exceeded. The thermal protection disables all outputs when the junction temperature exceeds 160 deg C, automatically recovering when it drops below 125 deg C.
