The BCM6318KMMLG from Broadcom is an ultra-low-cost ADSL2+ modem system-on-chip designed for entry-level DSL routers and gateways targeting emerging markets. It integrates the ADSL2+ transceiver (supporting up to 24 Mbps downstream), network processor, and peripheral interfaces including multiple Ethernet ports, USB 2.0, and Wi-Fi expansion capability. The BCM6318KMMLG integrates the ADSL2+ analog front end (AFE), digital signal processor (DSP), and network processor on a single chip. The AFE includes the line driver, receive amplifier, and analog-to-digital converters. The DSP implements the DMT (Discrete Multi-Tone) modulation specified by the ADSL2+ standard (G.992.5), which uses 512 subcarriers in the 0-2.2 MHz frequency band to achieve up to 24 Mbps downstream. The network processor handles routing, NAT, firewall, and WAN/LAN interface management.
