The MIC5283-5.0YME is a high-voltage linear regulator from Microchip Technology featuring an ultra-wide 6V to 120V DC input range and a fixed 5.0V output at up to 150mA. The device achieves an ultra-low 8µA quiescent current, making it ideal for always-on battery-powered applications. The 75dB PSRR at 10kHz rejects switching noise from upstream converters. The device is stable with ceramic output capacitors and includes a bypass pin for additional noise filtering. Thermal shutdown at 155°C and current limiting at 300mA typical provide robust fault protection. The ePad SOIC package ensures efficient thermal dissipation.

The MIC5283-5.0YME uses a high-voltage P-channel MOSFET pass element to regulate the output voltage across the wide 6V-120V input range. The high-voltage process allows the pass transistor to withstand large drain-to-source voltages without breakdown. The internal voltage reference and error amplifier compare a fraction of the output with the reference (via an internal resistor divider for the fixed 5.0V version), adjusting the PMOS gate drive to maintain regulation. The ultra-low 8µA quiescent current is achieved by minimizing bias current in the error amplifier and reference while maintaining loop stability. The high PSRR results from the high gain error amplifier and low output impedance of the pass element at audio frequencies. The 1.8V typical dropout at 150mA is determined by the RDS(ON) of the PMOS pass element. The bypass (BYP) pin allows an external capacitor to filter the reference noise for ultra-low output noise. Current limiting at 300mA typical and thermal shutdown at 155°C protect against overload and overheating conditions.
