MF-SM013/250V-2

The Bourns MF-SM013/250V-2 is a polymeric PTC resettable fuse from the Multifuse MF-SM/250V series. It provides overcurrent protection by transitioning from a low-resistance state to a high-resistance state when the current exceeds the trip threshold. The device automatically resets when the fault condition is removed and the current drops below the holding current. With a 130mA hold current and 60V working voltage, it is suitable for low-power circuits requiring automatic recovery. The AEC-Q200 qualification makes it appropriate for automotive applications. The 250V interrupting rating ensures safe operation during high-voltage fault conditions.

The MF-SM013/250V-2 operates as a self-resetting overcurrent protector: 1) Normal State: Below the 130mA hold current, the polymeric material maintains a low-resistance crystalline state (6.5-12Ohm), allowing normal circuit operation. 2) Trip Mechanism: When current exceeds the trip threshold or ambient temperature rises, the polymer matrix transitions from crystalline to amorphous state, expanding significantly and breaking the conductive paths formed by carbon black particles. Resistance increases by orders of magnitude, limiting current flow. 3) Reset: When the fault is removed and current decreases below the holding current, the polymer cools and recrystallizes, restoring the low-resistance state automatically without manual intervention.
