MAX3232CPWR

The Texas Instruments MAX3232CPWR is a multichannel RS-232 line driver and receiver designed for applications requiring RS-232 communication with low-voltage logic. It integrates two line drivers, two line receivers, and a dual charge-pump circuit that generates the necessary RS-232 voltage levels from a single 3V to 5.5V supply. The device provides +/-15kV ESD protection on all RS-232 bus pins, ensuring robust operation in harsh environments. The MAX3232CPWR converts TTL/CMOS logic levels to RS-232 voltage levels and vice versa through three main subsystems: 1) Dual Charge Pump: The internal charge pump uses four external 0.1uF capacitors to generate +5.4V (V+) and -5.4V (V-) from a single 3V to 5.5V supply, providing the voltage swings required by RS-232 standard. 2) Drivers: The two line drivers invert and level-shift TTL/CMOS logic inputs (0-5V) to RS-232 outputs (+/-5.4V typical), meeting the TIA/EIA-232-F minimum +/-5V requirement. 3) Receivers: The two line receivers accept RS-232 input levels (up to +/-25V) and convert them to TTL/CMOS logic outputs, with inversion and threshold detection at approximately 1.4V.
