The LTC2852IMS is a 3.3V RS-485/RS-422 transceiver from Analog Devices with 20Mbps data rate, built-in +/-15kV ESD protection, in an MSOP-10 package, suitable for industrial communication networks.

The LTC2852IMS is a 3.3 V, 20 Mbps full-duplex RS485/RS422 transceiver from Analog Devices in a 10-lead MSOP package. It features one driver and one receiver, supporting up to 256 nodes per bus via one-eighth unit load receiver input impedance. Guaranteed failsafe receiver operation over the entire common-mode range ensures a logic-high output under open or shorted bus conditions. Enhanced ESD protection withstands plus or minus 15 kV HBM on transceiver pins without latchup. Current-limited drivers and thermal shutdown protect against bus contention, while micropower shutdown mode reduces supply current to 5 uA maximum.

The LTC2852IMS implements a full-duplex RS485/RS422 transceiver with independent driver and receiver signal paths operating simultaneously. The driver converts single-ended TTL/CMOS logic levels (applied to the DI pin) into differential RS485/RS422 output signals on the Y and Z pins. The driver output stage uses a current-limited H-bridge topology that drives the differential output voltage to a minimum of 1.5 V across a 54 Ohm load (two 120 Ohm termination resistors in parallel). The receiver monitors the differential voltage between the A and B pins and converts it to a single-ended logic level at the RO output. A 150 mV receiver hysteresis provides noise immunity on slowly transitioning bus signals. The receiver failsafe biasing ensures the RO output is high when the bus is idle (open or terminated but undriven). Driver and receiver enable pins (DE and RE) allow independent control. The micropower shutdown mode is entered when both DE is low and RE is high, reducing quiescent current to 5 uA. The thermal shutdown circuit disables the driver when the die temperature exceeds approximately 150 C, automatically re-enabling when the temperature drops.
