It operates by controlling the gate of an external N-channel MOSFET to regulate the output voltage during overvoltage conditions, allowing loads to continue functioning at a safe, clamped voltage level. The device also provides overcurrent protection by monitoring the voltage drop across a sense resistor between the SNS and OUT pins, limiting the sense voltage to 50 mV. When a fault condition is detected, an adjustable timer starts; the FLT pin pulls low to warn of an impending shutdown, and if the condition persists, the MOSFET is turned off. The LT4363-2 variant automatically retries after a cool-down period with less than 1% retry duty cycle, making it suitable for applications requiring autonomous recovery. Two precision comparators monitor for undervoltage (UV) and overvoltage (OV) conditions on the input supply.

(3) The overcurrent protection limits the voltage across the sense resistor (SNS to OUT) to 50 mV by reducing the MOSFET gate drive. Under severe faults (OUT below 2 V), the limit reduces to 25 mV. The fault timer at the TMR pin charges proportionally to MOSFET stress. (4) The fault management system provides a FLT warning output when TMR reaches 1.275 V, and turns off the MOSFET at 1.375 V. The LT4363-2 then auto-retries after a cool-down period with <1% duty cycle, minimizing MOSFET stress during persistent faults.
