The LT1761ES5-5#TRPBF is an Analog Devices micropower low noise LDO regulator providing a fixed 5 V output at up to 100 mA. With an external 0.01 µF bypass capacitor, output noise drops to 20 µVRMS over 10 Hz to 100 kHz bandwidth, making it ideal for noise-sensitive applications. The 20 µA quiescent current suits battery-powered systems, dropping below 0.1 µA in shutdown. It operates from 1.8 V to 20 V input with 300 mV dropout at full load. The regulator is stable with output capacitors as low as 1 µF, including ceramic types. Internal protection includes reverse-battery, current limiting, thermal limiting, and reverse current protection.

The LT1761 operates as a low-dropout linear regulator with three subsystems: (1) The pass element is a PNP transistor that allows low dropout voltage (300 mV at 100 mA) since the input-to-output voltage only needs to exceed the VCE(sat) of the pass device. The PNP architecture also prevents reverse current flow when input voltage drops below output. (2) The error amplifier compares a fraction of the output voltage (from an internal resistor divider for fixed versions) with an internal bandgap reference, driving the pass transistor to maintain regulation. The external 0.01 µF bypass capacitor on the BYP pin filters reference noise, achieving 20 µVRMS output noise. (3) The protection circuitry includes current limiting (foldback), thermal shutdown, reverse-battery protection, and reverse current blocking, ensuring robust operation under fault conditions.
