The LMZ10505TZ-ADJ from Texas Instruments is a SIMPLE SWITCHER power module that integrates a 5A synchronous buck converter with an inductor in a single TO-PMOD-7 package. The device operates from a 2.95V to 5.5V input and provides an adjustable output voltage from 0.8V to 5V, making it suitable for point-of-load power conversion from 3.3V or 5V bus rails. The integrated inductor eliminates the need for external inductor selection and simplifies the PCB layout. The module requires only input and output capacitors for a complete design. The voltage-mode control with internal compensation provides stable operation across the output voltage range. Features include an enable pin for on/off control, output voltage tracking for power sequencing, and EMI-tested compliance. Protection features include overcurrent protection (OCP), overtemperature protection (OTP), and undervoltage lockout (UVLO). The TZ suffix denotes the TO-PMOD-7 package and -ADJ indicates the adjustable output voltage version.

The LMZ10505TZ-ADJ operates as an integrated synchronous buck converter module. (1) Synchronous Buck: The internal power stage consists of high-side and low-side N-channel MOSFETs. During the on-time, the high-side FET conducts and current flows through the inductor to the output. During the off-time, the low-side FET conducts, allowing inductor current to freewheel. The synchronous rectification (low-side FET replaces the Schottky diode) reduces conduction losses and improves efficiency. (2) Voltage Mode Control: The output voltage is sensed through a resistive divider (external for -ADJ version) and compared with an internal 0.8V reference. The error amplifier output controls the PWM duty cycle. The internal compensation network is designed for stability with ceramic output capacitors. (3) Integrated Inductor: The shielded inductor is integrated into the module package, eliminating inductor selection and ensuring optimal performance. The inductor saturation current rating exceeds the 5A output current limit. (4) Tracking: The VOUT tracking pin allows the output voltage to track an external voltage during startup, enabling controlled power sequencing for processors and FPGAs.
