The LMV358IDR from Texas Instruments is a dual general-purpose rail-to-rail output operational amplifier in SOIC-8 package. The device operates from 2.7V to 5.5V supply with 1MHz gain-bandwidth product, 0.8V/us slew rate, and 210uA total supply current for both amplifiers. The rail-to-rail output swings within 30mV of the supply rails, maximizing dynamic range in low-voltage applications. The input common-mode range extends from ground to VDD-1.2V, allowing single-supply operation with ground-referenced signals. The IDR suffix denotes SOIC-8 package with tape and reel.

The LMV358IDR operates as a dual rail-to-rail output operational amplifier. (1) The input stage uses a PNP differential pair that allows the input common-mode range to extend to ground (0V), critical for single-supply applications where the input signal may be at or near ground. The upper limit of the common-mode range is VDD – 1.2V, set by the bias circuit. The 1.7mV typical input offset voltage is adequate for most general-purpose applications. (2) The output stage uses a common-emitter (Class AB) configuration that allows the output to swing within 30mV of both supply rails under light load. This is significantly better than standard LM358 op-amps that can only swing to within 1.5V of VDD. The rail-to-rail output maximizes the usable signal range in low-voltage (3.3V/5V) systems where every millivolt of dynamic range matters. (3) The 1MHz gain-bandwidth product and 0.8V/us slew rate determine the maximum frequency and amplitude the amplifier can handle without distortion. For a unity-gain buffer, the -3dB bandwidth is 1MHz. For a gain-of-10 amplifier, the bandwidth is 100kHz. The maximum undistorted sine wave amplitude at frequency f is: VOUT(max) = SR / (2 x pi x f), where SR is the slew rate. At 100kHz, the maximum undistorted output amplitude is approximately 1.27V peak.
