The Texas Instruments LMR16030PDDAR is a 60V, 3A SIMPLE SWITCHER step-down regulator with an integrated high-side MOSFET. The wide 4.3V to 60V input range makes it suitable for industrial and automotive applications with unregulated power sources. The 40uA quiescent current in sleep mode extends battery life in always-on systems, while the 1uA shutdown current minimizes drain during standby. The adjustable switching frequency from 200kHz to 2.5MHz allows optimization for either efficiency or external component size. Internal loop compensation simplifies design and minimizes external components. Protection features include cycle-by-cycle current limit, thermal shutdown, and output overvoltage protection. The PowerPAD package provides excellent thermal performance.

The LMR16030PDDAR operates as a current-mode buck converter with four key subsystems: 1) Power Stage: The integrated N-channel high-side MOSFET switches at the programmed frequency, storing energy in the external inductor during on-time and releasing it through the external catch diode during off-time. The 90ns minimum on-time enables high-frequency operation at high step-down ratios. 2) Control Loop: Current-mode control with internal compensation regulates the output voltage by comparing the feedback voltage (0.8V reference) with the internal reference and adjusting the peak switch current. The internal compensation eliminates the need for external RC networks. 3) Frequency Control: An external resistor from the FB pin to ground sets the switching frequency (200kHz-2.5MHz), allowing optimization of efficiency versus component size. 4) Protection: Cycle-by-cycle current limiting, output overvoltage protection, and thermal shutdown protect the device and system. The precision enable input provides adjustable UVLO and power sequencing.
