The LMR10515YMFE/NOPB is a monolithic 3 MHz step-down DC-DC converter from Texas Instruments in a tiny 5-pin SOT-23 package. The Y-suffix version operates at 3 MHz switching frequency, allowing the use of chip-scale inductors and capacitors for the smallest possible solution footprint. With an input range of 3.0 V to 5.5 V and adjustable output from 0.6 V to 4.5 V at up to 1.5 A, it is optimized for point-of-load conversion from 3.3 V and 5 V logic rails in space-constrained systems. The internal 130 mΩ PMOS power switch delivers up to 93% efficiency while eliminating the need for an external MOSFET. The 30 nA shutdown current makes it suitable for always-on battery-powered applications. Internal soft-start, pulse-by-pulse current limit, thermal shutdown, and output over-voltage protection ensure robust operation. Current-mode PWM control with internal compensation requires only 4 external components for a complete solution.

The LMR10515YMFE operates as a current-mode PWM buck converter with an integrated PMOS high-side switch and external Schottky catch diode. At each 3 MHz clock cycle, the PMOS switch turns on and inductor current ramps up. The current-mode control loop compares the inductor current ramp against an error amplifier output to determine the switch-off point. When the PMOS turns off, inductor current flows through the external Schottky diode. The error amplifier adjusts the peak current threshold based on the difference between the feedback voltage (from the resistor divider) and the 0.6 V internal reference. The internal compensation network provides stable operation with a wide range of output capacitors. In shutdown mode (EN pin low), all internal circuitry is disabled, reducing input current to 30 nA. The 30 ns minimum on-time supports high step-down ratios even at 3 MHz.
