The LM35DZ from Texas Instruments is a precision integrated-circuit temperature sensor whose output voltage is linearly proportional to the Celsius temperature. The LM35DZ does not require any external calibration to provide typical accuracies of +/-0.5C at 25C. It outputs 0mV at 0C and 10mV per degree Celsius, enabling direct interface with ADC or comparator inputs without complex signal conditioning. The low output impedance of 0.1 Ohm and linear output eliminate the need for additional circuitry. The 60uA quiescent current makes it suitable for battery-powered applications. The D grade operates from 0C to +100C.

The LM35DZ uses a pair of transistors operating at different current densities to generate a voltage proportional to absolute temperature (PTAT). The difference in base-emitter voltage (delta VBE) between the two transistors is proportional to absolute temperature and is amplified and level-shifted to produce a 10mV/C output referenced to 0V at 0C. The internal circuitry includes precision resistors for calibration and a buffer amplifier for low output impedance. The device is trimmed during manufacturing to achieve the specified accuracy without external adjustment.
