LM2937IMP-5.0/NOPB

The LM2937IMP-5.0/NOPB is a 500mA positive low-dropout voltage regulator from Texas Instruments, optimized for automotive and battery-powered applications. It provides a fixed 5.0V output from an input voltage range of 6V to 26V, with a typical dropout voltage of just 0.5V at full load. The device incorporates comprehensive protection including reverse battery protection, +60V/-50V transient load dump immunity, short-circuit current limiting, and thermal shutdown. These features make it exceptionally robust in harsh electrical environments.

The LM2937 uses a PNP pass transistor to achieve low dropout voltage. In regulation, the error amplifier compares a fraction of the output voltage (via an internal resistor divider) with a bandgap reference, adjusting the PNP transistor base drive to maintain 5.0V at the output. When input voltage drops below the minimum headroom, the PNP saturates and the output tracks the input minus the dropout voltage. Internal protection circuits monitor output current and die temperature, activating current limiting or thermal shutdown when thresholds are exceeded.
