The L6384ED is a high-voltage half-bridge gate driver from STMicroelectronics manufactured with BCD offline technology, capable of driving MOSFET or IGBT half-bridge configurations with voltage rails up to 600V. The driver provides 400mA source and 650mA sink output current capability with 50ns rise and 30ns fall times into 1nF loads. A single input pin controls both outputs with matched propagation delays, and the DT/SD pin simultaneously sets the deadtime (0.4 to 3.1 µs via external resistor) and provides shutdown functionality. The integrated bootstrap diode eliminates an external component, and the internal VCC clamp (typ. 15.6V) and UVLO (12V on / 10V off) protect the driver and power devices. The ±50 V/ns dV/dt immunity ensures reliable operation in noisy half-bridge switching environments.

The L6384ED uses ST’s BCD (Bipolar-CMOS-DMOS) offline technology to integrate high-voltage level shifting with low-voltage logic on a single die. The single input (IN) controls both the high-side and low-side outputs with opposite polarity: when IN is high, HVG (high-side gate) is on and LVG (low-side gate) is off, and vice versa. The deadtime circuit inserts a delay between one output turning off and the other turning on, preventing cross-conduction. The deadtime is set by the voltage on the DT/SD pin, which is determined by an external resistor to ground. A current source feeds the pin, and the resulting voltage sets the deadtime through an internal comparator. The high-side driver is powered by a floating bootstrap supply (VBOOT relative to VOUT). The internal bootstrap diode charges the bootstrap capacitor from VCC during the low-side on-time, when VOUT is near ground. During high-side on-time, VOUT rises to the high-voltage rail, and the bootstrap capacitor maintains the gate drive voltage above VOUT. The level shifter transfers the logic signal across the high-voltage isolation barrier using a current pulse technique that is immune to dV/dt transients up to ±50 V/ns. The UVLO circuit disables both outputs when VCC drops below 10V, preventing underdriven MOSFETs from operating in the linear region.
