The IR2110PBF is a high- and low-side gate driver IC from Infineon Technologies designed for driving IGBTs and power MOSFETs in half-bridge configurations. The high-side channel can operate at offset voltages up to 500V, enabling direct driving of the upper switch in a half-bridge without an isolated power supply. The bootstrap circuit generates the floating high-side supply from the VCC rail using an external diode and capacitor. Each channel can deliver 2A peak source/sink current, ensuring fast switching of large gate capacitances. Independent HIN and LIN inputs allow flexible PWM control, while the SD pin provides a global shutdown function for fault protection. Matched propagation delays between channels simplify dead-time management.

The IR2110PBF uses a level-shifting circuit to translate the ground-referenced logic input (HIN) to the floating high-side output (HO) referenced to the VS node, which swings between ground and up to 500V. The level shifter uses high-voltage DMOS transistors that can withstand the 500V offset. When HIN goes high, a short pulse triggers the level shifter, which sets the high-side latch, turning on the HO output driver. When HIN goes low, another pulse resets the latch, turning off HO. The bootstrap circuit (external diode and capacitor) charges the VB capacitor to VCC when VS is near ground (low-side switch on). When the high-side switch turns on, VS rises, and the VB capacitor floats with it, maintaining the gate drive supply above VS. The under-voltage lockout (UVLO) on both the VCC and VB rails prevents operation when the supply is insufficient for full gate drive, protecting against partial turn-on and excessive power dissipation in the power switches. The SD pin overrides both channels simultaneously for emergency shutdown.
