The CS60-16IO1 from Littelfuse (formerly IXYS) is a high-power standard SCR thyristor rated at 60A average current and 1600V blocking voltage in a PLUS247 (TO-247-3L) package. Utilizing planar passivated chip technology for long-term stability, it features 1000 V/µs critical dv/dt, 0.32 K/W thermal resistance, and 1400A surge current capability. Designed for line-frequency applications, it is ideal for AC motor soft-start, DC motor control, power converters, and industrial power control.

The CS60-16IO1 is a Silicon Controlled Rectifier (SCR), a four-layer (PNPN) semiconductor device that acts as a latching switch. In the off-state, the device blocks forward voltage up to VDRM (1600V) and reverse voltage up to VRRM (1600V). When a positive gate current pulse (IGT ≥ 100 mA) is applied with the anode positively biased, the internal NPN and PNP transistor pair regeneratively latches the device into the on-state, allowing anode-to-cathode current flow. Once latched, the gate loses control and the device remains conducting until the anode current drops below the holding current (IH, 200 mA max). The device naturally commutates at AC zero-crossings in line-frequency applications. The planar passivation ensures reliable high-voltage blocking and long-term stability, while the 1000 V/µs dv/dt rating prevents false triggering from rapidly rising voltage transients.
