The 3V-18V supply range makes it suitable for everything from 3.3V microcontroller interfaces to 12V automotive logic. The near-zero quiescent current is ideal for battery-powered designs. The CD4081 complements the CD4071 (OR) and CD4011 (NAND) in the CD4000B logic family, giving designers all fundamental 2-input gate functions in compatible packages. Each AND gate in the CD4081BE performs Y = A · B. The output is HIGH only when both inputs A and B are HIGH simultaneously. If either or both inputs are LOW, the output is LOW. Truth table: (0,0)→0; (0,1)→0; (1,0)→0; (1,1)→1. The AND function is the logical equivalent of a series switch: both switches must be closed for current to flow. In clock gating: the clock signal AND a gate signal produce a gated clock that only toggles when the gate is HIGH. In enable logic: a peripheral is enabled only when BOTH the chip-select AND the read/write signal are active. The CMOS AND gate is typically implemented as a NAND gate followed by an inverter, both using complementary PMOS/NMOS pairs. The 60ns propagation delay at VDD=10V is adequate for medium-speed applications.
