The CD4051BM96 is a digitally controlled CMOS analog multiplexer/demultiplexer from Texas Instruments in a 16-pin SOIC package. As a single 8-channel multiplexer, three binary address inputs (A, B, C) select one of eight channels to connect to the common I/O pin, while an inhibit input (INH) disables all channels when HIGH. The device supports analog signals up to 20Vp-p with single supply (3V to 20V) or dual supply (±3V to ±10V). Logic-level conversion allows low-voltage digital control signals to switch high-voltage analog signals. The 125Ω typical ON resistance and ±10pA typical OFF leakage ensure minimal signal degradation. Break-before-make switching prevents channel overlap.

The CD4051BM96 uses CMOS transmission gates as analog switches controlled by a built-in binary-to-1-of-8 decoder. Each transmission gate consists of parallel N-channel and P-channel MOSFETs that conduct bidirectionally when ON. The three address inputs are decoded to select one of eight channels. The inhibit input (INH), when HIGH, overrides all address inputs and turns OFF all channels. Logic-level conversion is achieved by connecting VDD to the digital supply, VSS to digital ground, and VEE to the negative analog supply. The internal level shifter translates digital control signals (referenced to VDD-VSS) to analog switch drive (referenced to VDD-VEE), enabling control of bipolar analog signals with unipolar digital logic. Break-before-make switching ensures the currently selected channel disconnects before the new channel connects.
