The CD40109BPWR from Texas Instruments is a quad low-to-high voltage level shifter featuring four independent bidirectional channels with 3-state outputs. The device converts logic levels between two voltage domains, each independently powered from 3V to 15V, enabling flexible level shifting between any combination of common logic voltages. Each direction (A-to-B and B-to-A) has an independent enable control, allowing fine-grained control over data flow. The 3-state outputs enable connection to shared buses. With a propagation delay of 120ns typical and wide -55 to 125 C operating temperature range, the CD40109BPWR is suitable for both commercial and industrial applications. The CD40109BPWR operates as a bidirectional voltage level translator with independent power domains. Key subsystems include: (1) Four Bidirectional Channels – each channel can shift signals from A-side to B-side or B-side to A-side depending on the direction enable inputs; (2) Dual Power Rails – VDDA powers the A-side I/O and VDDB powers the B-side I/O, allowing independent voltage domains; (3) Direction Control – OA (output enable A-to-B) and OB (output enable B-to-A) independently control which direction is active; when both are disabled, outputs are in 3-state; (4) Level Translation – CMOS inverters on each side convert the input logic level to the appropriate output level referenced to the respective supply rail.
