The CC0402KRX7R7BB104 from Yageo is a 0.1uF 16V 10% tolerance multilayer ceramic chip capacitor (MLCC) with X7R dielectric in a compact 0402 (1005 metric) package. The X7R Class 2 dielectric provides +/-15% capacitance stability over the full -55 to +125C temperature range, making it suitable for general-purpose decoupling and bypass applications. The 0.1uF value at 16V rating is the most commonly used decoupling capacitor value for digital ICs operating at 3.3V or 5V. The Ni/Sn lead-free termination is compatible with standard lead-free reflow soldering processes.

The CC0402KRX7R7BB104 operates as a multilayer ceramic capacitor (MLCC). (1) The capacitor is constructed by stacking alternating layers of ceramic dielectric material (barium titanate-based X7R formulation) and inner electrode layers (nickel), then sintering at high temperature to form a monolithic structure. The effective capacitance is the sum of all layer capacitances in parallel. (2) The X7R dielectric formulation provides Class 2 temperature stability, maintaining capacitance within +/-15% over the -55 to +125C range. While not as stable as C0G/NP0 Class 1 dielectrics, X7R offers much higher volumetric efficiency, enabling 0.1uF in a tiny 0402 footprint. (3) As a decoupling capacitor, it provides a low-impedance AC path between power and ground rails, absorbing high-frequency current transients from digital switching and preventing voltage fluctuations on the supply rail.
