The BQ25792RQMR is a Texas Instruments I2C-controlled 5A buck-boost battery charger designed for 1-4 cell Li-ion and Li-polymer batteries with USB Power Delivery 3.0 support. The integrated 4-switch buck-boost converter charges batteries from any VBUS voltage between 3.6V and 24V, whether above, below, or equal to the battery voltage. The dual-input selector with ACDRV1/ACDRV2 charge-pump drivers automatically selects between two input sources (e.g., USB-C and barrel jack). USB PD 3.0 OTG (On-The-Go) output allows the device to supply power from the battery to a USB-C port in sink mode. All four switching MOSFETs, current sensing circuits, and loop compensation are integrated for a compact solution. The I2C interface provides full programmability of charge voltage, current limits, and switching frequency. JEITA-compliant thermistor monitoring ensures safe charging across the battery temperature range. Ship mode minimizes battery leakage with SDRV-controlled ship FET. Packaged in QFN-29 rated for -40C to +85C.

The BQ25792 uses a 4-switch buck-boost topology with integrated MOSFETs Q1-Q4. When VBUS > VBAT, Q1/Q2 operate as a synchronous buck charger. When VBUS < VBAT, Q3/Q4 operate as a boost charger. When VBUS is near VBAT, all four switches operate in buck-boost mode for seamless regulation across the full input range. The dual-input selector uses charge-pump-driven back-to-back N-channel MOSFETs (ACFET + RBFET) on each input, with automatic selection based on VBUS voltage. For OTG mode, the converter reverses direction, generating VBUS from the battery using the same 4-switch topology. The TS pin monitors battery temperature via NTC thermistor, adjusting charge current/voltage per JEITA profile. The PROG pin resistor sets default switching frequency and charge profile at power-up. The ship FET (SFET) controlled by SDRV disconnects the battery in ship mode for minimum leakage. Thermal regulation reduces charge current at high junction temperatures.
